Should corporations be allowed to patent human genes?

I agree with the ACLU. This particular case has led to significant barriers in the health-care field as it required researchers who so much as mentioned the name of that gene in their research papers to pay a royalty. This kind of patenting of medical information would destroy medicine as we know it. This particular case was viewed by many in the medical field as a case of academic piracy.
